Summers are hot and humid with afternoon thunderstorms the create numerous dangerous lightning strikes. The Tampa Bay area is the lightning capital of North America. The six-month hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30 and Floridians have learned to be ready when a storm threatens the area.
